How is your coffee roasted?
Our coffee typically ranges from a light to medium roast. However we always let each individual coffee inform the roast profile, as each coffee develops differently during roasting.
We roast to order every Thursday and Friday on a Coffee-Tech Ghibli R-15.
How long will my coffee last past its roast date?
We recommend drinking your coffee within 1 month of its roast date. If your coffee is pre-ground, it won’t stay fresh for as long and we’d recommend consuming it within 2-3 weeks.
What is the best way of storing coffee?
Coffee is best kept sealed in a cool location away from direct sunlight. Refrain from refrigerating coffee, this will add moisture to your beans affecting its flavour.
Why do you only sell whole beans and not ground?
Once ground, coffee very quickly loses flavour and most of what we love about it. Grind- size is equally important in how your coffee extracts and tastes. To make sure you get the tastiest cup out of your preferred brew method, we ship whole beans. If you’re just starting out on your coffee journey and you’re in need of some grinder advice, feel free to reach out to email@example.com and one of our team members will be happy to assist.
How do I know what grind size to buy?
Our grind sizes are based on what we determine to be best for home brewing methods through thorough testing of each of our coffees. If you have a commercial machine at home, add a note to your order and we can grind it finer for you.
Do you blend coffees?
No we don’t. For the same reason you wouldn’t blend two wines together from different vineyards, there is no quality driven reason to blend two or more coffees together. Because the solubility of each coffee will be different, at least one component will not reach its full potential. In addition, we are a specialty roaster, so all of our coffees score above 80/100 by the SCA.
Is your coffee ethically sourced?
Yes. We work with farmers and exporters to ensure we are buying from farms with ethical and sustainable practices and we make sure we pay these farmers well, usually double the global fairtrade price.
Why is your coffee not certified as Fairtrade?
This is because Fairtrade bears no impact on quality and with coffee, the higher the quality, the higher the price. Our farmers also do not have to pay the expenses attached to Fairtrade certification that often cuts into the wages of the farmers employees. We’d rather 100% of the money we pay for our beans, goes directly to the farmer and their team.
Why is your coffee not certified organic?
We believe the cost associated with certifying coffee organic is better used to pay the farmers and their employees more money. As we have full traceability on every coffee we source, we know sustainable practices are in place.
Do you guys do wholesale?
Absolutely. We work with some fantastic coffee shops, restaurants, retail sites, offices and co-working spaces, making sure their customers are always well caffeinated and we’re always looking for more like minded businesses to partner with. If social impact, sustainability and seriously tasty coffee are your key drivers we’d love to hear from you. firstname.lastname@example.org
Where do you ship to?
We currently only ship domestically within the UK. Our green coffee is already shipped from Colombia, which we pay Ecologi to offset our carbon footprint for and we believe adding to this footprint by shipping abroad is an unnecessary environmental expense.
